What is video-call speaking test?

Test takers will take the Speaking test at an official IELTS test centre with the same high standard of identity verification. The test will be delivered via a video call by an IELTS Speaking examiner, enabling a real-life, real-time, two-way interaction. The Video-call Speaking test will be exactly the same as the in-person Speaking test in terms of content, scoring, timing, question format and security arrangements.

On the test day

  • Plan to arrive at your test centre at least 30 minutes before your test and bring your valid Identification Document (ID) you registered with
  • An IELTS team member will guide you to your Speaking test room and verify your identity
  • You will be taken into the test room and logged into the computer by a member of staff
  • You will also be required to wear a headset, so please bear this in mind
  • You can expect crystal clear sound, secure fast connections and real-life conversation.

During the test

  • Speak clearly all the time
  • Tell the Examiner if you can’t hear and they can repeat themselves
  • Do not touch anything on the table unless asked to do so by the Examiner
  • Avoid touching your face, mouth or any stationery items during the test as this may affect the sound quality
  • The topic for Part 2 of the test will appear on your screen and you can make notes
  • The Examiner will tell you when the test is finished, and the connection will end
  • Ring the bell on your table should you need help from the invigilator.

What is Video-Call speaking test?

With Video-Call Speaking tests, a test taker has a live video-call with an Examiner who is based in another test centre. It is highly secure and maintains the trusted real-life conversation aspect of the Speaking test.

Is the test changing?

No, the Speaking test is not changing and will still be carried out with a trained certified experienced IELTS Examiner. There is no change to test content, marking, structure or timing. The test taker still undergoes the test day identity verification processes in a highly secure IELTS test centre.
