강의 소개
"The Role of Violence in Film and Media"
In an age of public shootings and teenage murderers, politicians and the media alike look to cinema and its depiction of violence as a negative influence and contributing factor. This talk investigates why violence has been a persistent feature of film and so popular with many audiences. In particular, this talk examines the role of violence in arthouse cinema: why do sophisticated filmmakers in Britain, Europe and Asia use extreme representations of violence in their “art”?
교수 약력
Mattias Frey is Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Kent. His research revolves around European cinema, historiography, matters of media reception and consumption, the history of ‘classical’ and contemporary film theory, movie criticism and cinephilia. He has published in the major subject journals, including Cinema Journal and Screen; his books include Postwall German Cinema: History, Film History and Cinephilia (Berghahn, 2013) and Cine-Ethics: Ethical Dimensions of Film Theory, Practice and Spectatorship (Routledge, 2013).
